Kirkbymoorside

THE Kirkbymoorside Young Farmers club had a full and active programme last month. The club invited members from Rillington YFC and Easingwold YFC to a social evening in Church House, followed by supper at the White Horse Hotel.

Another meeting took the form of an 'antiques quiz' evening. This was enjoyed by the 20 odd members and thanks go to Mr Edward Harrison for organising the evening.

On January 24, the club met in Church House for an interesting and informative talk by a representative from BATA.

For last week's meeting, 19 members travelled to the stained glass centre at Cayton, Scarborough.

The club will hold a domino drive on Wednesday, February 21, at 7.30pm at Fadmoor village hall.

Helmsley

ON the night of Friday, Febuary 2, we held our annual dinner in the newly refurbished Helmsley Town Hall where 73 old and current members from our club and the other clubs in our district attended.

Our guest speaker for the night was Mr Robert Goodwill, MEP and local farmer, who gave us a very good speech with plenty of humour and we would like to thank him for giving up his time to speak to us. We would also like to thank Mrs Margaret Rooke, our caterer, for an excellent meal and the Town Hall for letting us use their excellent facilities.

After the speeches, Mr Goodwill then presented our trophies for the year 2000 and the winners are as follows: Stockjudging - junior Jenny Flintoft, intermediate David Teasdale, senior Andrew Carter; best boy member, William Hawkins; best girl member, Helen Rooke; best performance at district rally, Jenny Flintoft; best performance at district public speaking, Peter Rooke and Janet Flintoft.

Next week, we are meeting on Monday, Febuary 12, for a social evening by kind invitation of Stokesley YFC at the Station Pub, Stokesley, for a evening of fun and games. Meet at market place, 6.45pm.
