Veteran Mosquito crewman John Wragge, from York, celebrated his 78th birthday by being reunited with the "wooden wonder" - a craft in which he flew 25 wartime missions.
Mr Wragge visited the Yorkshire Air Museum, at Elvington, to reminisce alongside the museum's Mosquito Nightfighter, which is the only remaining example of the aircraft, much of which was made of wood.
His former employer, Bob Young, of Osbaldwick Motors, lined up the visit with the help of the museum.
Mr Wragge flew with 169 Squadron as a navigator-aimer, and survived engine failure and flak while bombing enemy airfields.
