Acomb's hopes of making headway in the first division of the Yorkshire League suffered a major setback when they crashed 3-0 to third-placed Doncaster.
Acomb found themselves a goal down from a short corner after just five minutes and from thereon in went on to struggle to find a way past the Doncaster defence.
Doncaster doubled their lead midway through the half from another short corner and although second-placed Acomb put pressure on their rivals' goal for the rest of the half they could not conjure up a reply.
In the second half Acomb pressed and again pinned Doncaster back with Dave Bell working tirelessly.
Jamie Robinson had the best chance of the half after a fine run when he ghosted past the goalkeeper, but to Acomb's anguish he pulled his shot wide.
This summed up the day for Acomb and in the dying minutes the game was put beyond doubt when a quick free hit was deflected to a Doncaster player, who fired the ball into the empty net to seal a 3-0 win.
However, there wasa no such problem for Acomb III.
They maintained top spot in their division after struggling to break Hull down until midway through the first half when Jon Cooper picked up the ball in the area and shot past the Hull 'keeper.
Acomb then went on to take command and further goalsfollowed from Andy Lovett (2) and Ian Roberton to complete what proved to be a comfortable conquest.
