Martyn Turner lifted the York Unique Pub Company League Individual trophy following a tremendously exciting tussle with Chris Thompson.

The best of five final produced 11 tons and 14 higher scores, including two Thompson maximums.

Thompson won with 17 then 18 darts but Turner majestically coined the crown with 13, 116 finish for 15 then 17 darts against the throw.

Thompson won the semi-final with 16, 20, 21 against Mick Nixon (Dringhouses), who had 16 then a magnificent 180 for 12 darts..

Nixon's earlier round win included 14 darts to back 21, 17 against Punch Bowl's Martin Waddington.

Alex Render (Tap) shot 17 darts, but Thompson threw 20, 22 then 16.

Once Turner had warmed up with 20, 21 against Neil Fairclough (Punch), the Britannia team flier hit 24, 15, 18 to put out Ray McInally, a 19, 17, 17 winner over John Mooring (17).

Mooring and Nixon then threw a 22-dart 701 but lost the pairs competition final 2-1 to Thompson and Tony Cooper, who joined with McInally to contest the triples event.

This was against their Britannia 'B' side, comprising Turner, Gary Stead and Stuart Simpson.

Turner took the 5-3 winner after registering 17 and 15 darts to support 17 then 20 from Stead. Thompson had 18, 23 darts and Cooper an excellent 18.

Punch Bowl were beaten 5-4 by Leeman in the final match of the season, but held on to the York John Smith's Mixed League division one title by two points. Martin Waddington had a fine 19 darter for Leeman.

Second-placed Huntington beat Cygnet 'B' 7-2. Rich Plummer shot a splendid 17 darts while Dave Robinson won in 20 and Tracey Farmeary checked out 150 for 21.

Slipper 'B' had Wayne Foster gaming in 18 darts and a maximum from Paul Partridge in a 5-4 over their 'A' side.

Ray Greenhough and Valerie Whitehead took the decider for Vaults 'B' against their 'A' team.

Competition finals night is at Layerthorpe WMC on Friday, 8pm.

Men's Individuals: Chris Thompson, Pete Leake, Martyn Turner, Neil Fairclough.

Women's Individual: Michelle Britton, Angie Hields, Tracey Farmeary, Jo Brundrett.

Mixed pairs: Farmeary - Rich Plummer, Karen Richardson - Leake, Hields - Dave Robinson, Jane Evans - Dave O'Hara.

York John Smith's Ladies League's annual Elsie Bell drawn pairs competition attracted 28 entries.

Angie Hields and Ann Regan (Queen) reached the quarter-finals by beating Joan Woods (Brigadier) and 180 scorer Jean Smallwood (Frog), while Shelagh Kenny (Queen) and Muriel Britton (Wenlock) progrssed with big scoring against Jane Janes (City Arms), June Sharp (Cueball) then Ann Barker (Layerthorpe) and Queen captain Barbara Russell.

However, Kenny and Britton could not match the pace set by Hields. The City Arms ace included four tons and two 140s to book a semi-final place of her and Regan.

Diane Moreland (Cranes) and Sue Smith (Beeswing) beat Carol Perrett (Cranes) and Carol Pearson (Mitre), but were then eliminated by Tina Platt (Layerthorpe) and Doreen Cunniff (Queen).

Dawn Exton (Wenlock) and Colleen Cunniff (Queen) took out Carole Layne (Brigadier) and Audrey Seymour (Mitre) but found Rozz Kerr (Brigadier) and Dorothy Barker (Mirtre) too good. So did Platt and Cunniff, Kerr and Barker winning 2-0.

Babs Harrison (Cranes and Angie Powell (Cygnet) made the February 27 semi-finals night by beating Sue Turpin (Layerthorpe) and Linda Embleton (Clifton) before polishing off Kirsty Booth (City Arms) and Toni Smallwood (Frog).

Their board-final opponents were Elsie Bell's sister, Mary Dodsworth (Queen), partnering Tracey Farmeary (City Arms), winners over Mandy Watson (Mitre) and Janine Ratcliffe (Wenlock), and Julie Ashton (Layerthorpe) and Audrey Carling (Cueball.)

A board-final win over Cygnet duo Maggie Druett and Liz Powell, earned Wendy Smith (Mitre) and Sue Smith (City Arms) a chance of the championship title.
