The north's premier pantomime dame, Berwick Kaler, will return to the Theatre Royal next year in a production of Jack And The Beanstalk.
The announcement, made at the final show of Dick Whittington on Saturday night, means that Kaler will appear for an incredible 23rd time as York's Christmas pantomime dame.
Martin Barrass, who played Stanley Sessay, son of Kaler's dame, Cissy Sessay, had his fifteenth appearance alongside Kaler marked with an award presented during the performance.
He was given a pottery bowl, with a seal emblem - one of his roles in the panto, from Theatre Royal staff and acting colleagues.
Jack And The Beanstalk is expected to open mid-December this year and run until early February.
The Theatre Royal plans to begin accepting bookings in July and will announce an exact date when it is decided.
A spokesperson for the Theatre Royal said: "Berwick and Martin work wonderfully together and we look forward to welcoming them back next year."
