YORK Maxiprint League runaway division one leaders Britannia 'A' suffered a shock defeat at the hand of their house rivals, Britannia 'B'.

Chris Thompson gave the 'A' team a magnificent start by including a maximum 180 for 15 darts, but the 'B' side responded by taking the next four on the trot. Lee Brudrett partnered Paul Lane to win the match.

However, Stan Jackson's scoring did enough to save the aggregate point.

Punch moved into second place after an emphatic 7-2 win at Burton Stone, whose only singles success was M Smith (180). Martyn Turner (16) was in superb form, while Neil Fairclough hit five tons in his games.

Paul Bartnett (20) put Nags Head in front but Mitre responded well with Sam Pearson, then John Pickering (20), doing well. The match was delicately poised at 4-4 when Pete Edwards and Bartnett took the decider. Paul Roberts and Edwards threw more high scores to secure the extra points while Mitre's Brian Farell hit a maximum.

Dave Pilmoor (19) and Michael Harris (21) put Escrick ahead only to see Slipper's Peter Turnbull shoot 18 darts then partner Russ Turpin to take the match decider. Dave Bath's consistent scores helped Escrick to the aggregate.

Division two leaders Tap took all the singles to win 7-2 against Palace with good scores coming from Darren Bailey, Andy Parker and John Smith.

Pack moved into second spot with a convincing 7-2 win over their nearest rivals, Ebor. Baz Varley (19) was well backed by Ian Winn and Danny Mahon while Dermot Touhey and Brent Conland made good replies.

Phil Good and Brian Allen took the match for Six Bells against Huntington 'A', however, consistent darts from Harry Watson and Mark Bowes saved the Huntington the aggregate point.

Bishopthorpe returned to winnings ways with a 5-4 victory against Crown whose top performer was Nigel Blackburn. Jimmy Kelly and Eric Sleightholme took the winner while Dave King and Arthur Conyers go among the tons.

Roger Pirrier played well and Steve Parkinson hit 180 but Leeman were on the wrong end of a 7-2 scoreline against Jackdaw, whose James Fitzpatrick showed fine form.

From 3-3, Crescent went on to take all the pairs against Indoor Bowls and stay top of division three. Their nearest challengers, Yearsley, beat Woolpack 5-4, whose Dave Cormack threw an outstanding 115 finish. Jo Hodges and Bob Smith secured the match and aggregate for Yearsley.

Gimcrack beat Royal Oak 6-3 and Bay Horse won 7-2 against Howden who had Steve Burton in form. James Brookes and Mike Jackson were best players for Bay Horse. Ashley Kemp's win was Ship's only point as they sunk to Huntington 'B'. Rodger Lovelace stood out and was well supported by Ian Cox and Steve Smith.

Winning Post rallied to win against Cygnet after being 4-2 down. Keith Graham and Daphne Greene saved Cygnet the extra point.

York John Smith's Mixed League hold their annual meeting at Punch Bowl on Sunday, 8pm. Teams wishing to enter the summer season should have their applications to the secretary (01904 448075) by then.

Marston Moor Villages League leaders Royal Oak came up with the big double board scores to pip Lord Collingwood 5-4.

Andy Hill made his tons total 13 for the season. Lee Appleyard also included a 100 score as did Kevin Lund taking his most league wins to 13 from 14 outings. Collingwood's Andy Carter improved his check-out table standing with game on 91 while both Steve Wragg and Gary Stead hit tons.

A 74 finish by Colin McLeod helped Nags beat Nelson 5-4 whose Jeff Twort took out 70 and Mark Thornton, 80.

Tankard 'A' had Ian Powell finishing on 75 and Steve Green gaming on 23 darts in an 8-1 victory at Alice Hawthorn. Other tons scorers were George Rae (Sports Club), Ken Dacre (Social Club), Dave Smith (Sun) and Jim Young (Tankard 'B'), recording 24 darts.
