FREEZING fog, mist and ice in the region today made for miserable journeys.
A teenage motorcyclist was seriously injured after a crash near Ripon. The rider, from Bishop Thornton, was taken to hospital with head injuries after being in collision with a stationary van between Fountains Abbey and Ripley at 8.20am.
About an hour earlier, a Mercedes car span and hit a lorry in fog on the A1 southbound, close to its junction with the M1 southbound.Though it created problems in terms of queuing traffic, the accident was not thought to be serious.
Ambulances were called to several incidents in York where people had slipped.
