AS a very new York resident - I moved here at Christmas to take up my new post as head of The Mount School - I express my warmest thanks to City of York Council and all the organisations who so generously participated in the Residents First Weekend.
I have felt very welcome everywhere I have been in York and this weekend was a wonderful introduction to its treasures. My daughter and I managed to visit six of the attractions on offer last Saturday and enjoyed them all.
Even queuing in the pouring rain for the ticket office to open at 9am was fun because there was a real community feeling as we shared umbrellas and were recommended the best options to try.
The conjunction of my visit to Clifford's Tower with Holocaust Memorial Day was the most poignant part of the day and my tour of Barley Hall was the most fascinating. We had an excellent time and are already planning what to do next year.
We expect many friends to visit us during the summer months and now we know exactly where to take them.
Residents First is an excellent idea.
