York-born Oscar-winning actress Dame Judi Dench has been ranked above British screen stars like Catherine Zeta Jones, Elizabeth Hurley and Helen Mirren in the latest poll of movie fans.
Dame Judi, who last week scooped a Golden Globe for her part in Last of the Blonde Bombshells and took the best supporting actress Oscar in 1999 for Shakespeare in Love, came second to Julie Walters in the Orange Film Survey of more than 10,000 voters. The poll ties in with the Orange British Academy Film Awards which are out on Wednedsay.
Still a sex symbol at 70, James Bond favourite Sir Sean Connery was voted greatest British movie actor of all time, followed by Sir Anthony Hopkins and Sir Alec Guinness, who died last year.
Dame Judi did not attend last week's glittering Golden Globe event after losing her husband, Michael Williams on January 12.
She previously won a Golden Globe in 1998 for her role as Queen Victoria in the film Mrs Brown.
