The weather could not have been more appropriate for this year's Brass Monkey Run around York.
The frosted landscape glistened in the winter sunshine as 1,000 runners took on the 13.1-mile half marathon from York Racecourse through Alcaster Malbis and Appleton Roebuck and back again.
Ian Malone, from Ackworth, was the first man over the line and Emma Latto, who has family in York, but lives down south, won in the ladies' field.
The event, organised by York Knavesmire Harriers, proved so popular this year that 300 budding entrants could not get a place in yesterday's race. Organisers are hoping to increase the capacity for next year's event.
Race co-ordinator Matthew Turner said: "The weather morning was very fitting for the Brass Monkey Run because it was so cold.
"It has been an excellent event and again we have attracted a broad range of entrants from serious runners to people running for fun."
Organisers thanked racecourse staff and police for their help as well as the many volunteer marshals and helpers.
