I DO not accept the views of Mr D K Johnson regarding the traffic survey in Poppleton.
As a resident in the village for more than 30 years, I think action must be taken to curb the dangers of speeding traffic through the village. Both schools are situated in Main Street and I have witnessed two dangerous incidents in the past few weeks.
If the speed limit in the village were reduced to 20mph (and enforced), it would not only discourage the morning and evening rat-run traffic, but also the tendency among some residents to ignore the current speed limit.

...DAVID Johnson (Letters, January 10) may not be aware of any problems with "traffic other than the use of the village as a rat-run by a small number of drivers"; but then he doesn't live on the main rat-run route. If he did, he would know it is more than just a small number using the village as a rat-run.
Long Ridge Lane has to suffer the rat-run and the speedsters.
So I, for one, look forward to some of the £250,000 being spent on traffic calming measures. It is, I'm afraid, a regrettable necessity.
