Two men have been arrested after a sports car was driven the wrong way on the A1 following a 100mph police chase.
Police are appealing for witnesses after the chase yesterday morning which began on the northbound carriageway at Boroughbridge.
The red Saab 900 was chased by a police up to Dishforth before it turned and began going the wrong way down the carriageway.
Police are especially keen to hear from the driver of a metallic green Ford Focus which was nearly in collision with the Saab.
"I feel many motorists would have seen the Saab overtaking at over 100mph followed by a maroon police Volvo," said a police spokesman.
"The Saab swung round just past the Dishforth turn-off and briefly drove south on the northbound carriageway before turning off the road. It bogged down and the occupants, two men from Tyne & Wear, were arrested."
Witnesses should contact the police on 01423 505541.
