Second-placed Fulford Road WMC 'A' team were held to a 5-5 draw by York RI 'A' in division one of Focus Fireplaces York and District Table Tennis League.

John Hughes and Trevor Wright scored two wins each for RI, while Graham Hatfield won two for Fulford.

Third-placed Coneysthorpe 'A' trounced their 'B' team 9-1 to narrow the gap on Fulford 'A' two only two points. Gary Marshall and Ian Stansfield were unbeaten for Coneysthorpe 'A'.

Paul Eastwood's three wins helped Bootham Conservative Club 'A' to a 7-3 win over York RI 'A'.

Poppleton 'A' gained their first win of the season, beating the team just above them in the table, INL 'A', 6-4. Richard Moss and Steve Ayres were unbeaten for Poppleton.

Division two leaders Poppleton 'B' lost for the first time this season when they went down 7-3 to Bootham Conservative Club 'C', whose Peter Corner scored three wins.

Nestl Rowntree 'B' continued their climb up the table with a 7-3 win over Fulford Road WMC 'B', whose Ed Wardman was unbeaten.

John Elliott's three wins could not prevent York RI 'D' going down 4-6 to British Telecom 'A'. All the Telecom team players won two each.

Martin Hood's three wins put INL 'B' on the way to a 6-4 win over Sessions 'B'.

In the top match in division three saw Northern Electric held the leaders Coneysthorpe 'C' to a 5-5 draw. Dave Quinlan and Dave Boothroyd each won two for Northern Electric, while John Foxton won two for Coneysthorpe.

Richard Kendall scored three wins for Sessions 'C' in their 8-2 victory over York RI 'E'.

Steve Milner, Bob Plant and Matthew Neal all won two as Bootham Conservative Club 'E' beat INL 'D' 7-3.

David Atkinson scored three wins for Shepherds 'A' in their 7-3 success against INL 'D'.

Division four leaders Fulford Road WMC 'C' beat Shepherds 'B' 9-1, a result which somewhat flattered the Fulford side st Shepherds played well and were worth more than the point they got. Clive Warley and Colin Dickson were unbeaten for Fulford.

York Police won a close match with York RI 'F' 6-4. Jim Noble played well for the Police to score three wins and he won three for Police as they beat CGNU 'A' 8-2. Simon Moss and Alan Mozley each won three as Poppleton 'F' beat York RI 'I' 7-3.

Steve Hayes won three for York RI 'H' in their 5-5 draw with Sessions 'D'.

Poppleton 'F' had Brian Park and Alan Mozley in top form as they beat CGNU 'B'7-3.

Michael Slezak and Adrian Church were unbeaten as CGNU 'A' beat Sessions 'D' 9-1.

* York Closed Table Tennis Championships will take place at York RI gymnasium over the weekend of February 3-4.
