Fargate, published by Microids for PC-CDROM
SPECS: Pentium II 233MHz, 32MB RAM, 800MB Hard Disk, 4MB 3D Video-Card, 16-bit Sound-Card, CD-ROM
Take the typical 3D real-time strategy game and add another dimension, then you have Fargate. Fargate takes place in outer space, and you can adjust the camera freely with the mouse. In other words, you can adjust the zoom and camera angle to be as far away or as close up as possible, and as upside down and round about as you like. Nice idea - shame it doesn't work well.
The graphics are slightly above average, and the sound effects aren't much better, while the gameplay is hindered by the fact that the controls are extremely difficult to master.
The levels are simple enough and, as long as you save regularly, the trick is to experiment and reload to easily conquer the levels it throws at you. The game has quite high specs, which is justified by its complexity, but Fargate lacks anything to keep you coming back.
Graphics 4/5
Sound 3/5
Game-play 3/5
Gamespan 3/5
Overall 3/5
