Yorkshire may not seek an alternative overseas player if their star batsman Darren Lehmann is chosen by Australia for the NatWest Triangular Tournament which takes place during June.
Yorkshire cricket chairman Bob Platt is working on a contingency plan in case Lehmann is also wanted by Australia for the Ashes series this summer but he believes they may get by if the free-scoring left-hander is only required by his country for the one-day internationals.
"The triangular series is played from June 7-23 during which time Yorkshire are involved in only two Championship matches and I think we could risk it if that is the only first class cricket he would miss," said Platt.
"But we still need to have a contingency plan in place in case Lehmann proves to be unavailable to us for the whole of the season."
Meanwhile, Platt and his cricket committee are continuing their search for a first team coach to replace Martyn Moxon and they have now narrowed the field down to about six names which probably include Andy Moles and Bob Cottam who are both known to have applied for the job.
"Our deliberations are taking a long time because it is essential that we get the right man but we need to have him in place by March 1 when the players report back for duty," said Platt.
