The Foss flood barrier in York is to be refurbished at the cost of £200,000 following last year's floods, under Environment Agency plans.
The flood defence, built by the agency in 1987, was in non-stop operation for a record 17 days during November's crisis.
During the floods, the barrier was put under incredible strain and work will include the refurbishment of the eight pumps.
The works are part of a £2.8 million repair programme brought about by the floods across Yorkshire, which brought defences under unprecedented pressure.
This repair programme is part of the cash requested from the Yorkshire Regional Flood Defence Committee by the agency.
The agency has requested a 63 per cent increase or £10.8 million to pay for the flood defence work.
