York's hold on the Yetton Trophy was released when they lost to Cumbria in the zone final 86-66, losing three rinks in the process.

The only home success came from Carol Instone, Mary Wreglesworth, Joyce Chelin and Lynda Parker.

Initially they were coasting to an easy win at 21-10 after 15 ends. But then they only managed to score one from the remaining six ends before fending off a spirited fightback to win 22-17.

In the other home rink, Linda Harrison, Betty Richardson, Sue Kirkpatrick and Joan Jackson lost a five on the first end and three on the third, but they pulled back to 8-8 after seven ends.

Cumbria then took the initiative, pulling away scoring from 11 of the next 13 ends, to win 22-13.

Both York rinks lost in Cumbria with Pat Napier, Sue Chilton, June Clayton and Dot Kennelly losing for the first time in nearly three years.

They were drawing at 16-16 after 18 ends but a two and a four left the visitors too much to do on the last end, where they secured a two but lost 22-18.

Jeanette Coulson, Sue Tomlinson, Ann Redhead and Madge Zimnoch managed to pull their game back to 9-9 after 12 ends but then fell away to a 25-13.
