YORK RI Kings produced their best result of the season when they destroyed York RI Cavaliers B 5- in the quarter-final of the League Team Knock-Out competition.
In a match of many fine performances Don Baldwin's win on top board against Paul Townsend was the best.
Playing against the top evening league player Baldwin continued the good form he had shown at the York Congress and secured a win that rolled back the years and reminded everyone how good a player he once was.
Kings' captain John Lafferty had the luxury of being able to rest himself for the game and enjoy his team's triumph from the sidelines.
Other wins for Kings were achieved by John Bennett, Rachel Mothersill, Sean O'Neill and Andy Wade, while Peter Blacker picked up a draw.
In the semi-final, Kings will likely be up against Shepherds, while Minster Inn will play the only second division team left in the competition, Nowhere Men.
Minster Inn had a superb 3-2 win against Cavaliers 'A'.
Adam Ismail and Steve Whitehead won for Minster Inn and there were draws for Paul O'Neil, Mark White and Paul Anderson. Cavaliers' win came from Owen Robson.
Entries are still being taken for the York one-day rapid-play competition being played this Saturday at the Elmbank Hotel. Anyone interested should call Peter Cloudsdale tel York (01904) 767177.
