The third round of the Acomb Tackle York Winter League was fished in blizzard conditions on a cold and clear river Ouse below York.
Given the conditions a sheltered draw at the bottom of the Palace was always going to be favoured and when the plum end peg was pulled out by Anglers World's Mick Potter the result was never in doubt. The only issue was by how much he would win and in the end the answer was lots. Fishing for Barlby Village Stores, Potter used a slider and maggot attack in his 16 foot deep peg. A total of 60 roach from 1 to 10 oz responded giving him a net of 7lb8oz well ahead of the rest of the 120-strong field.
Carl Pringle (Bar Six) made it two seconds in as many weeks with 2lb13oz from a peg three up in the Bridge Field at Bishopthorpe. Fishing a groundbait feeder with double red maggot he connected with three skimmers and a couple of roach, all bar one skimmer coming in the last half hour.
Close behind was Anglers World's Darren Starkey who used a groundbait feeder with single cater from peg 38 on the Palace Bend. A roach and a chublet gave him 2lb12oz.
The Ouse above York was in equally difficult mood. Saturday's 57-peg Bob.Co Tackle match saw Tony Webster (Hirst Tackle) victorious with just 3lb4oz8dr.
Drawn on peg 46 opposite Linton shallows a maggot feeder cast tight to the far side did the trick in the form of a single chub.
