Annette Williams, the number four seed, has found herself as favourite to win the York Ladies' Veterans' Squash Championship.
The withdrawal of top seed Kim Chadwick, second seed Davina Butler and the injured third seed Caroline Wyatt leaves Williams as the only seed left in this week's tournament at Dunnington.
She opened by beating Jean Denholme 9-1 9-0 9-3 to set up a match with Lynn Barratt, who plays for the host club.
In the bottom half of the draw, Jackie Sedgewick beat Liz Stacey 3-1 after a slow start, and Wendy Shepherd, recovered from injury, beat Barbara Plummer in straight games.
The remaining seeds all had 3-0 victories last night to go through to the quarter-finals.
In the men's championships, number eight seed Steve Chadwick went out in a five set match against Roger Burton.
Paul Turner, last year's winner, beat Pete Marsh 9-0 and fourth seed John Letham, having won the first 9-0 against Pete Hartley, lost the second by the same margin before winning 3-1.
