TEACHER Gavin Cowley has been feeling the cold after having his head shaved for charity at Oaklands School, in Acomb.
Mr Cowley, who is assistant headteacher at the school, had the whole lot cut off in front of a crowd of pupils at the school after laying down a challenge to them. He told them back in December that if they could raise £500 at a non-uniform day he would go bald for charity after Christmas. Unfortunately for Mr Cowley and fortunately for four charities, the £500 was raised quickly, with the running total now approaching £800. The pupils were so keen to see the head shave take place that they even paid an entry charge to watch a hairstylist from Clippers gents hairdressers, who is also a parent, carry out the snipping.
The four charities which will benefit, all chosen by the students, are SNAPPY, Children In Need, the NSPCC and the Special Care Baby Unit at York District Hospital.
