Chicken Run, published by Eidos for PlayStation
RIGHT, here's the plan. Ginger, you go under the wire and fetch stilts and Mrs Tweedy's dress. Make sure you avoid the farmer's patrol route and keep an eye out for dogs. They're dangerous, you know.
What's the best way to avoid them? Oh, you know, duck from hideaway to hideaway and flatten yourself against walls so the camera pans round and shows you what's moving behind you. Yes, just like Metal Gear Solid. But with chickens. And a trickier camera angle.
Chicken Run is, no surprise, the game of the movie. Unlike most movie adaptations, though, this one's actually good. It can be quite merry trotting around the farmyard trying to find the various pieces of equipment you need to help your comrades make their escape.
Happily, the game also has a bit of variety, with setpieces for the actual escape sequences that offer a completely different way of playing.
There are a few problems caused by the camera view (nearly directly overhead), but these are quite minor.
With cut-scenes taken directly from the movie, and mostly authentic voices (sorry, no Mel), Chicken Run is a smashing little game.
