Detailed plans for a traffic calming scheme in Malton are set to be displayed at a special exhibition being held next week.
Roads bosses are proposing to create a 20mph speed restriction zone, near schools in Pasture Lane and Highfield Road, and to build roundabouts and speed humps.
The exhibition will give residents a chance to inspect the plans and fill out a questionnaire expressing their preferences or objections to the plans.
Much of the congestion experienced along these roads happens near the schools and is caused by inappropriate parking by parents, said a spokesman from Ryedale District Council.
"Among the proposals are more formalised parking areas and waiting restrictions to encourage parents to change their parking habits," he said.
"The aim is basically to reduce traffic speeds in the area and highlight to drivers where they need to be careful."
Officers from North Yorkshire County Council will be on hand to discuss the proposals at the exhibition on Wednesday, January 24, at Malton Community Primary School in Highfield Road.
The exhibition, which has been set up following requests from members of the public, Ryedale District and Malton Town Councils, will run from 1pm to 8.30pm in the school annexe, formerly the caretaker's house.
