Yorkshire's cricket committee have agreed to look specifically for a first-team coach to replace Director of Coaching Martyn Moxon.

"Various names have been discussed and we will do further research to find the man we think is best for the job," said chief executive Chris Hassell.

Although the post has not been advertised, the publicity generated by Moxon's shock departure to Durham has already attracted a number of applications and Hassell will sift through these before reporting back to the cricket committee.

"Once the cricket committee is in a position to make a recommendation it will go before the general committee, but this could take some time yet," said Hassell.

Cricket chairman Bob Platt has already stated he does not want to disturb the work being done among younger players by Arnie Sidebottom and Steve Oldham and the setting on of a first-team coach would leave the pair free to continue with their present jobs.

But the direction Yorkshire are now wanting to go in suggests there will be no scope for Geoff Cope to take on the coaching administration role which some had favoured.

Hassell said the meeting had also discussed making contingency plans in case their star Australian batsman Darren Lehmann was included in his country's one-day squad for this summer's visit to England.

"At this stage we don't know for certain that he will be wanted by Australia, or for how long.

"It might be for only for ten days or so, but we need to plan ahead as best we can in case it is for longer."
