A major search was underway today for a man who went missing off the North Yorkshire coast.
The Norwegian cargo vessel Haukeur made an emergency call to Humber Coastguard when it discovered the ship's cook had gone missing.
The captain of the Haukeur confirmed the last sighting of the missing man was at 6.30am today when the vessel was approximately 14 miles off Whitby.
Humber Coastguard requested the launch of the RNLI lifeboat from Whitby and the RAF rescue helicopter from Leconfield.
They were searching the area along with Whitby fishing vessel Sardius and a motor vessel Llano.
