Top names from abroad are among the dozen or so applications Yorkshire County Cricket Club have received for the coaching vacancy brought about by the shock departure of Martyn Moxon to Durham.

But cricket chairman Bob Platt said he thought it unlikely that his committee would make a firm recommendation for the job at their meeting at Headingley today.

"We have other important issues to discuss as well and we don't want to be rushed into anything," said Platt.

"We also have to be mindful of the possibility that Darren Lehmann could be unavailable for all or part of next season if chosen for Australia's tour of England and we need to come up with a replacement name if necessary.

"There is also the job of deciding on a replacement for first team physiotherapist Caryl Becker who has left the club."

Although Yorkshire have not yet advertised for a coach to replace Moxon, there has been no shortage of people prepared to take it on and Platt expected further applications to arrive at Headingley later this week.

But it is still unclear whether Yorkshire will bring in an outsider or fill the post by tweaking the contracts of current coaches Arnie Sidebottom and Steve Oldham with former Yorkshire off-spinner Geoff Cope possibly being offered a coaching administration role.

Even if the cricket committee did want to go for a top name, it is not certain that the hard-up club would be able to agree to cough up the wages.

Yorkshire captain David Byas, on holiday abroad when Moxon handed in his resignation, was due to attend today's meeting.
