IT is interesting to note once again the negative response from a police traffic management spokesman to calls for traffic calming on the A64 at Bilbrough Top (January 10).Cameras are not an option, a 50 mph restriction would not protect, we are told.
Following other accidents and comments such as restrictions cannot be policed etc, I have yet to see one positive statement issued as to just how a pedestrian is expected to cross an A-road in safety.
There are still a few who want to walk or cycle in safety and this often means crossing roads. Most inconsiderate of us not to go with the flow, but there is no reason why we should be ignored. Traffic management is not just solely about keeping road vehicles moving.
A suggestion as to how to cross the Northern Ring Road A1237 that links the Bridleway from Skelton Brecks Fields to Rawcliffe would be appreciated. This was a pleasant walk to York, before the A1237 was constructed, but now impossible to cross.
