Villagers are holding a public meeting to demand urgent action after yet another accident at a notorious A64 blackspot, in which two police officers were injured.

A police investigation is being held after the accident at the Bilbrough Top gap, between York and Tadcaster, in which a York woman also received minor injuries.

The crash happened on the day a teenager died after being knocked down by a car while trying to cross the road on foot at the same spot three days earlier.

And residents claim there has been a total of four major and two minor accidents in the area within the past fortnight.

They will demand action at a community meeting on January 26.

In Friday evening's accident, an unmarked red Ford Mondeo police car was attempting to turn right, through the gap, from the eastbound carriageway to visit the Q8 garage on the other side.

As it pulled onto the road it was in collision with a black Fiat Punto travelling in the direction of Leeds.

The accident happened at 6.50pm on Friday, the day 16-year-old Jamie Colin Sanders, of Northallerton, died in hospital after being hit while trying to cross the gap on foot on Tuesday.
