A former Sheriff's lady and long-time employee of the McDonald's restaurant in York has died of cancer, aged 57.
Sandra Horwell, of Lindley Street, Holgate, died on January 9 at York District Hospital two months after being diagnosed with the disease.
Sandra met her future husband, David Horwell, at the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints in Acomb, York, and they were married in August 1960.
In 1992 Coun Horwell, who had been a councillor for the Foxwood ward between 1979 and 1988, become Sheriff to the Lord Mayor, Coun Ann Reid.
During her time as Sheriff's lady, Mrs Horwell hit the headlines when she helped to bring a man back from the dead by giving mouth-to-mouth resuscitation after he collapsed at the Joseph Rowntree Theatre.
