MEMBERS of the Yorkshire Countrywomen's Association are very worried that City of York Council seems determined to proceed with the Coppergate Riverside scheme in spite of the concern expressed by so many.
Clifford's Tower stands austere and dignified, a testament to the history of York - any other city would treasure such an important part of its heritage, so why demean a building that attracts so many visitors? Surely landscaping would be a much more sensible alternative?
John Shannon was quite right when he stated that the present scheme would be an act of architectural vandalism for which future generations would never forgive us.
Glenys Haynes,
Chairman of the Yorkshire Countrywomen's Association,
