ALTHOUGH the car park was full, visitors were easily absorbed by the many shops, none of them appearing over busy.
We hadn't come to Monk's Cross to shop. On the suggestion of hairdresser Paul, we wanted to investigate another snack spot.
A wide window allowed us to see the full extent of activity. It was not busy. Despite this, staff were incredibly slow at clearing tables.
All tables were free standing which theoretically should allow any sized party to sit together.
It is self service, with ample opportunity to read the menu board and special offers. My initial quick scan was confirmed by a later study.
This venue appears to offer excellent value. Any muffin and a coffee cost £1.99, any baguette and a coffee, £2.99, or baguette, muffin and coffee at £3.99. But what about the quality?
I would have had a wild mushroom baguette with soup (£3.25), but both these items were unavailable. So I chose a bacon and chunky-egg baguette. I also had a muffin. I am not a great fan of muffins, but mine was so light with the distinctive flavours of apple and cinnamon clearly discernible. And all for £3.99.
Ann said that her prawn Marie Rose baguette was not earth shattering but her blueberry muffin was nicely moist. It was only after she had drunk her coffee that I saw large servings were called mugaccino (£1.60).
Other items I spotted were toasted folaccia, chicken satay and roasted vegetables with cheese melt each for £2.99.
This is a venue catering for children. There were adequate high chairs and a play area. There was a separate section for smokers. The only drawback was slightly intrusive music.
