I WAS interested in Chris Titley's Yesterday Once More (January 8), in particular the photograph of the Auxiliary Fire Service in 1941.
My father, company officer Alfred Anfield, is seated second on the left of the front row of chairs. Third from the right on the same row is Richard Lazenby. There were many other familiar faces, but I cannot remember names - I was really only four years of age in 1941! I wonder if Mr Jim Joy or any other readers can put names to faces?
My memories are sketchy, but I know that my father spent much time watching at York Minster, climbing the central tower in the dark - it was a good view point for the Minster and the wider area.
He spent much time at aerodromes in the area including Pocklington which is mentioned in your article. Driving around in the hours of darkness with blackout conditions was very different from modern motoring.
