A teenager faced two firearms charges at Harrogate after a pistol was pulled in the town's magistrates court.
Richard Davies, aged 18, was remanded in custody for trial at York Crown Court and will make an initial appearance there on February 5.
Davies, of Hambleton House, Harrogate Road, Minskip, near Boroughbridge, son of a former Mayor of the market town, is accused of having a firearm, an 8mm single-action, blank-firing handgun, with intent to commit an indictable offence by escaping from custody.
He is also charged with possession of the same firearm with intent to cause Gary Aldsworth to believe unlawful violence would be used against him or another.
Presiding magistrate John Render agreed to a request by prosecutor Michael Hammond for Davies to appear in the dock wearing handcuffs.
