Heworth will hope to kick-start their National Conference League division one campaign tomorrow but only if they can beat the weather.
Struggling Millom are set to visit the York side, but the match (kick off 2pm) is doubtful because of frost and snow.
"I'd imagine it's the rock-hard ground that will be the problem, and with snow it's difficult to mark the pitch," said spokesman Ken Sykes.
The club were hoping to arrange a pitch inspection today, and should the game get the go-ahead, coach Harold Box will be hoping his side can improve their league form.
Although the Villagers are still in the Challenge Cup, they haven't won in the league since beating basement side Askam in mid-November. Their latest division one match was a defeat by Eastmoor Dragons three weeks ago.
However, they won 7-4 at Millom earlier this term and are confident of completing a double over the Cumbrians. "We beat them in a low-scoring game," said Sykes.
"They're struggling a bit, like we are, but we managed to get the points at their place and I would hope we can beat them again."
Hooker Liam Cochrane is expected to return from injury which ruled him out of the defeat by Eastmoor, and Box is expected to have a full squad to choose from.
Another game in doubt is New Earswick All Blacks' home match against London Skolars in division two.
The All Blacks trained at White Rose Avenue on Wednesday after the pitch had thawed, but it frosted badly again and, given the fact Skolars will have to travel from London, a decision on whether to play was to be made today.
"If the pitch is still like it was yesterday we will have to call it off," said club spokesman Eddie Loftus.
The York side will be wanting revenge over the Londoners after being hammered 40-14 in the capital earlier this season.
The All Blacks have since been replaced at the bottom of the table by the Skolars, but given the manner of their defeat in London, they will not be treating the visitors lightly.
Barring unavailable hooker Jes Petch, the hosts should have a full-strength squad.
York Acorn make the short trip to Castleford Panthers looking for a much-needed division two victory, which will hopefully kick-start their stuttering season.
