A motorist apparently had a lucky escape after the red Vauxhall Cavalier he was driving demolished a telephone pole in a York street.
Police are anxious to speak to the driver, described by witnesses as a white male in his early to mid-twenties, who left the scene of the accident in Millfield Lane, off Hull Road, before they arrived. The Cavalier was the only vehicle involved. The road surface was very slippery at the time and police are investigating whether this contributed to the cause of the crash, which happened at about 10.35pm.
Anyone who has information about the accident should call York police on 01904 631321.
