The Coppergate II proposed development still occupies regular columns in the Evening Press with many local groups starting to voice their opinions about this development.
I believe the Piccadilly development is wanted by the people of York but that the area around Clifford's Tower should either be left alone or made into a grassy park area.
I hope our councillors will realise that the approval they recently gave to this development is not wanted by most York citizens and that it does vandalise the historic site around the tower known as The Eye of the Ridings.

...I am delighted that a local group has been set up to come up with suggestions for viable alternatives to Coppergate II. In the mean time, Land Securities has put forward several modifications to its current application, all of which are improvements but do not change the fundamentals of the scheme. The fact that Land Securities is submitting major changes at such a late stage in the planning process shows us that:
1. It did not listen to public opinion or take into account the council's own guidelines when drawing up its most recent plans.
2. Just like the original plans submitted a couple of years ago, it has been seeing what it can "get away with" and then modify the plans as a reaction to protest rather than taking part in any serious consultation.
3. Council officials in charge of this project have not been acting in the best interests of York people, its only due to massive opposition to the scheme that these improvements have been made.
