Scarborough eased to a comfortable win in front of their biggest crowd of the season against a Doncaster side who were never in the game.

Scarborough's player-manager Neil Thompson opened the scoring midway through the first half with a deftly taken free-kick and when teenager David Pounder produced an incisive cross for Cherif Diallo to add the second, it seemed all Scarborough had to do was to keep their nerve to record their first home win since the end of September.

But when Matty Caudwell's corner was nodded down by Barry Miller, Tristam Whitman turned to hand Rovers a lifeline just before half time.

However, that lifeline was cruelly cut within 35 seconds when, with Pounder again the provider with another enticing cross, Denny Ingram fired home his first goal of the season to restore Boro's two-goal advantage.

Thompson said of his team: "It was a thoroughly professional performance from one to 11."

The sides meet again at Belle Vue on New Year's Day, when Scarborough will have Diallo and Shaun Rennison suspended.

With Simon Betts having completed his £10,000 move to leaders Yeovil, the strength of Thompson's squad will be severely tested.
