ANGRY York City manager Terry Dolan ordered his team in for extra training today after last night's horror show at home to Blackpool.

The players had originally been given the day off but the City chief was so incensed by the manner of their 2-0 defeat that he immediately demanded they report in for a coaching session at the Wigginton Road training complex.

"Talk about after the Lord Mayor's Show," said a frustrated Dolan, after watching his side follow up Tuesday's great FA Cup win at Reading with a terrible display at Bootham Crescent.

"There aren't a lot of positives you can take out of that game. We were powder puff.

"That's not taking anything away from Blackpool, who played well, but we never competed with them at all. We weren't going to be training (today) but we are now.

"I said to the players that a reasonable team, after Tuesday, would have ground out a result in their next game. A draw would have been a result tonight and while it's 1-0 there's a glimmer of hope that you could sneak one back. But the defending for their second goal was pathetic.

"There will be games where things don't go your way, but as a team you should stick together and grind out a result, but to do that you have to compete."

The City chief, who kept his side in the dressing room for half an hour after the game, was unable to explain how such a fine display at the Madejski Stadium could be followed by such a lacklustre show. "It's very frustrating," he said.

"We hoped to build on Tuesday night. The players have had every encouragement and we've told them to believe in themselves, but then you get a performance like that."

Even Dolan's attempts to spark life into the side - by switching from a wing-back system to 4-4-2 midway through the second half - had no effect.

"The performance was on an even keel all the way through the game - poor," he said.
