It's derby day again in the Northern Counties East League where Selby Town will look to avoid an unwanted hat-trick against arch-rivals Goole.

The Robins travel to the Victoria Pleasure Grounds having suffered two defeats at the hands of Goole this season, both at Flaxley Road.

The opening day of the premier division campaign saw Goole enjoy a 4-1 win, Peter Daniel's men following that with a League Cup victory.

Selby, meanwhile, have new opponents in the quarter-finals of the NCEL President's Cup after Hall Road Rangers were kicked out of the competition for fielding an unregistered player.

Yorkshire Amateur, beaten 4-1 by Rangers in round one, have been awarded the tie and now make the trip to Flaxley Road on a date to be arranged.

In-form Harrogate Railway will have the help of Whitby Town defender Kevin Graham as they look to climb further from the NCEL premier division relegation zone at home to Hallam.

The former Nestl Rowntree player, returning to action after a three-month injury-enforced lay-off, has been lent to the Station View outfit by the UniBond League premier division club.

He played 20 minutes last week as Paul Marshall's men increased their unbeaten run to five games with a 2-2 draw against Staveley, despite seeing one of their scorers, Ian McLean, sent off.

Marshall said: "Team spirit and will to win is carrying us through and that's excellent. The players all get on well and stick together. If you have those qualities you're half way there to success."

McLean's suspension does not kick in this week and so is in the squad but Saturday's other scorer, Chris Whalley, is unavailable, while Jarod Williams is doubtful with an ankle injury. Striker Patrick Taylor is added.

In NCEL division one, Pickering Town, two points behind leaders Hall Road Rangers but with three games in hand, have set themselves a target of six points from their two festive games starting at Louth.

The Lincolnshire side have been on a good run of form but Pikes boss Jimmy Reid is confident they can pick up a result.

Tadcaster Albion take a break this week as their ground is still unfit following the floods.

They should have been at home to Maltby Main tomorrow but have been unable to arrange an alternative fixture so their next match will be at Hall Road Rangers on December 30.

Harrogate Town continue their bid to get clear of the UniBond League division one basement with a trip to second-bottom Matlock Town.

Manager Mick Hennigan expects to name the same squad as last Saturday's 1-1 League Cup draw at Farsley Celtic.

He said: "Matlock are near the bottom but we're near the bottom and it will be a hard game. I wouldn't say I'm expecting three points but I'm optimistic."

Nestl Rowntree boss Jim Collis believes the West Yorkshire League championship is already developing into a two-horse race even before the Christmas period.

The champions lie three points behind leaders Carlton Athletic despite having enjoyed their best-ever start to a season, and Collis said: "You shouldn't really talk about titles until maybe April, but I can't see Carlton dropping many points."

Nestl face a tricky game at fourth-placed Beeston St Anthony's knowing a victory is vital to keep the pressure on.

"We've got 39 points from 14 games, and most people would be over the moon with that. We had dropped nine points this time last season and went on to run away with the league," said Collis, whose side's only defeat this term was against the leaders.

"It's the best start we've had in the West Yorkshire League; the only difference is the fact Carlton have bought a good side and are getting the results. When we played them, I had all my midfield ruled out and we ran them off the park but lost 3-0."

He added: "We might not have played that well all the time but while we've been pinching these results we're still in there."

Collis will have defender Alex Dewhirst back and Steve Haddon will be hoping to play some part on his return from a broken toe. Fellow midfielder Scott Barley is doubtful with a foot injury.

Knaresborough Town travel to Bardsey with likely the same squad as that which lost 1-0 at home to Rothwell last week.

York RI will not find out until tonight if their match at Mount St Mary's will go ahead. The Leeds-based team have not played a home game for several weeks because of a waterlogged pitch.

Pickering Town Under-19s take a break from Northern U19 Alliance League action until the new year, with their next game likely to be on Sunday, January 7.
