Two floating bird havens have been built at Rawcliffe Lake, York.
The Friends of Rawcliffe Lake have teamed up with the British Trust for Conservation Volunteers (BCTV) for the project, which has been funded by Yorkshire Water.
In the last month, City of York Council's leisure office has installed seating for visitors to the lake, and the Environment Agency hopes to install two interpretation panels depicting the wildlife which can be seen in the area.
Coun Alan Jones, the council's executive member for heritage and leisure, said: "We see this week's project as a wonderful opportunity to involve local people in beautifying a well-used area and enhancing facilities for everyone using the lake.
"These are the very things the York leisure office was set up to achieve - and everybody is a winner."
