There's no stopping Selby soldier Danny McCulloch as he brake-dances into a new sport.

The 18-year-old Trooper with the Royal Dragoon Guards, The Royal Armoured Corps, was one of 50 soldiers competing in the Army novice and junior ice sport championships in the aptly-named German town of Winterberg.

Trooper McCulloch made his debut in the two-man bobsleigh event as brake-man. So taken was he with the adrenaline thrill of hurtling down a mile of a winding, frozen course he is determined to pursue his new sporting passion.

He enthused: "It was brilliant. We didn't crash and I was able to keep my head up to see.

"I will definitely keep the sport up. I like doing brake-man at the moment, but I'd like to have a go at driving."

The former Brayton High School pupil joined the Army last year and has served in Germany and Austria.
