Sheriff Hutton villagers now have a striking and permanent reminder of the last thousand years.
Four years ago, villagers met to decide how they should mark the Millennium.
And, after a number of suggestions, they agreed on a map of the parish and a local history book.
Since then, 40 volunteers have worked long hours to produce the map, while a separate team of seven have worked on the book.
The finished article was recently unveiled by Sir Marcus and Lady Worsley in a special ceremony in the village hall.
Project spokesman Alan Farnaby said almost 200 people came to see the unveiling, and there was a "tremendous" atmosphere in the hall.
He said: "Everyone was eager to see the unveiling, as so many people in the village have contributed something to the project.
"A wide range of skills and hundreds of hours of hard work have been put into it, and the people who took part can rightly be proud - both the finished articles look superb."
