Harrogate Colts made heavy going of their 22-10 win at Widnes played in murky conditions.
Handling was difficult but there were several moments of enterprising rugby union, with Harrogate concentrating the game away from the hosts' larger pack, producing quick ruck ball to launch their faster back division.
That paid early dividends with a try for Richard Paterson and although Widnes replied with a penalty, Richard Davies increased 'Gate's lead with two tries in quick succession.
However, the visitors than started to play to Widnes' strengths and in a forward battle, the hosts, despite losing a man to the sin-bin, fought back to 10-17 with a converted try.
With the last move of the match, though, Harrogate created an overlap for Chris Harris to score in the corner.
