Two talented York Acorn rugby league players have been rewarded for some impressive performances with county call-ups.

Alan Willitts and Nicky Caldwell, who spent part of last season with Hull FC Academy, have been selected for the Yorkshire Youth Under-18s squad.

The squad is managed by Robin Divorty, father of former Hull, Leeds, Halifax and Great Britain forward Gary Divorty.

Acorn Under-14s travelled to Batley Boys for their cup clash with just 11 players but produced a fine performance to win 28-16.

They made the perfect start when powerhouse forward Simon Wadsworth crossed for the first of his four tries and Tom Dunmore notched the first of four successful conversions.

Acorn continued to dominate the first half and underlined their dominance with a Tom Brolly try, goaled by Dunmore, which was followed by two more for Wadsworth to build up a 24-0 half-time lead.

The player shortage took its toll on Acorn after the break but Wadsworth steadied the nerves with his fourth try as they hung on to win.

Acorn Under-15s fielded a below strength team and suffered a rare 29-16 at home to Newcastle in the Continuation Cup.

Despite impressive displays by man of the match Chris Norman, Marc Brookes, Kevin Brayshaw and Chris Tinker, Acorn were unable to quell a stronger running Newcastle outfit.

Tinker grabbed a hat-trick of tries and Richie Dolan added the other.
