Scarborough striker Steve Brodie netted a hat-trick in a pre-Christmas cracker at Morecambe, but it was only enough to give his battling side a share of the spoils.
Neil Thompson's men had to come from 2-0, 3-1 and 4-3 down to earn a 4-4 draw.
Morecambe's FA Cup hero Mark Quayle, whose goal put Cambridge United out of the cup in the second round, also notched a hat-trick on what was his full Nationwide Conference debut, after setting up the hosts' first goal after four minutes. His shot was saved by Phil Priestley but Garry Thompson put home the rebound.
Quayle doubled the lead two minutes later and although Brodie slammed home from close in to half the arrears, Quayle added Morecambe's third just seconds later.
After the break Cherif Diallo volleyed home and then set up Brodie's equaliser but Boro fell behind again on 62 minutes through a Quayle header. However, the visitors stole a point five minutes from time when substitute Ashley Lyth crossed for Brodie to stab home.
Harrogate Town gained a 1-1 draw at Farsley Celtic in a UniBond League Cup match. They were denied all three points in the group stage match by a Scott Bairstow own goal five minutes from time after a mix-up with 'keeper Chris Hill.
Iain Dunn's 56th minute penalty had given Town the lead after on-loan Andy Shelton was upended in the box.
In the Northern Counties East League premier division, Harrogate Railway's Ian McLean opened the scoring in a 2-2 draw with Staveley but was later sent off for two bookable offences. Chris Whalley made it 2-0 but a Dave Thompson brace levelled matters.
Early goals by Clive Freeman and Scott Henderson saw Goole gain a 2-1 win over Hallam, whose scorer, Shaun Dunphy, was shown the red card late in the match for dissent.
Selby Town's NCEL home game with Sheffield was postponed due to a frozen pitch.
In NCEL division one, Chris Antcliff and Richard Howey gave Tadcaster Albion a much-needed win over Rossington Main, who pulled one back through Richard Sennett, while Pickering Town's home game with Hatfield was another victim of the weather.
