Malton and Norton face a big fixture backlog after Saturday's game against Bramley Phoenix was one of many matches which fell foul of frost.

Malton now have to reschedule that Yorkshire Three fixture and also have to play their Tetley's Bitter Vase fifth round game at Halifax Vandals, hopefully on January 6, and the preliminary round of the North Yorkshire Trophy at Guisborough, which is due to be played the following day, January 7.

Among the games which were postponed because of either frost or waterlogging were the York v Redcar and Goole v Old Crossleyans games in North East Two, Ripon v North Ribbledale, Northallerton v Roundhegians (both Yorkshire One) and Heath v York RI (both Yorkshire Three).

York have rearranged their outstanding North East Two game at Darlington for next Saturday.

Yorkshire Two league leaders, Scarborough, romped to their tenth Yorkshire Two win from twelve games when they beat Castleford 23-5 after being 5-3 ahead at half time.

Dan Harwood scored a penalty in each half for Castleford, Scarborough scoring tries through Phil Barker, Andy Holloway and outstanding Kiwi fly-half Marcus Edwards, who kicked the rest of Scarborough's points.

A last gasp penalty by Carl Paterson snatched Selby a narrow 16-15 Yorkshire One derby win over Wheatley Hills at Sandhill Lane.

Selby held a narrow 10-8 advantage at half-time courtesy of a try by flanker John Hick and a conversion and penalty from Paterson in reply to a try and penalty by Wheatley Hills.

Another Paterson penalty extended the lead to 13-8 at which point Selby were well in control.

However, Wheatley Hills managed to force their way over for another try, converted by Hardcastle, to edge 15-13 ahead. But in the dying seconds Paterson was handed an easy penalty chance to give Selby victory.

Wetherby travelled to Stanley Rodillians where they went down 13-3 in Yorkshire Four, Simon Martin scoring Wetherby's penalty goal.

Nestl Rowntree's Mille Crux pitch, that has a reputation for being playable in all weathers, beat the cold snap and Trees took advantage with a 48-23 win over Withernsea in Yorkshire Six.

Wing Ashley Walters scored four tries, including a penalty try, with others by Michael Lawrence, George Atkinson, Andy Moorey and James Baldwin, Dave Sowray adding the goals.

Withernsea, who had been trailing 22-3 at half time, hit back with tries through Ian Arnett, Paul Brown, Adie Hall and Mark Todd, Pat Feeney adding a penalty goal.
