THE first snow of the winter falls in York. Or does it?
There is more to this festive scene than meets the eye, because although seasonal snow seemed to be adding to the atmosphere at a Christmas festival in The Quarter, in York, this weekend, it was fake, created by a machine.
The Festival of Angels also featured ice sculpture by the York Minster stone carvers, and music from the 60-strong York Philharmonic Male Voice Choir and rock band Gabriel.
The Quarter area of York includes Little Stonegate, Swinegate, Back Swinegate and Grape Lane, and the event was being staged to mark the link between the city and angels, which dates back to the time of Alcuin in the Eighth Century.
