RETIRED York psychiatrist William Kerr has been acquitted of raping a patient at Clifton Hospital, York - and also of two indecent assaults against other women in North Yorkshire.
He was unanimously cleared of another rape on Thursday, but the jury at Leeds Crown Court has still not been able to reach a verdict on two further rape allegations, plus 13 of indecent assault. Dr Kerr, 75, of Alne, near Easingwold, originally charged with four rapes and 15 indecent assaults against a total of 16 North Yorkshire patients between 1968 and 1988, has been unable to plead because of mental impairment but denied the allegations during police interviews.
The jury will resume its deliberations on Monday.
