It is an increasingly familiar story this weekend as both big events look set to fall foul of the swollen waters of the Ouse.
York Amalgamation's rearranged Fur and Feather contest, which was due to be re-fished tomorrow after falling victim to the weather last week, has been cancelled again due to flooding.
The fourth round of the Yorkshire Winter League, scheduled for the Ouse below York on Sunday, is also at risk.
There is no alternative venue or dates booked and cancellation will reduce the series to a five round contest. This will suit leaders Hirst Tackle but the chasing pack, including Anglers World, FAPS Bradford and Armley Angling, may well be disadvantaged.
There are still plenty of scope for match anglers with a number of contests on commercial fisheries around the region.
Woodlands offers the best, if slightly peggy, sport with weights in excess of 30lb normally needed for victory. The maggot feeder approach will continue to be the method until water temperatures start to rise.
At The Oaks, Sunday sees their Fur and Feather event with £50 up for grabs every five peg section.
Maggot has been scoring here also with pole fishing to the island cover working well. Winning weights of 15 to 20 lb of small carp have been the norm recently.
Closer to York both Carpvale and Raker host matches on Sunday.
At Raker the introduction of a consignment of small chub seems to have fired the appetites of the lake's other silver fish residents. Pole with maggot, caster or worm will all score with mixed nets of skimmers, roach, chub and carp over 20lb expected.
A similar exercise with trout at Carpvale has met with mixed results. The trout are featuring well but other fish have been harder to tempt, possibly because anglers are fishing with tackle that is too heavy. The front pond continues to fish well.
The only match booked for York stillwaters is at Claxton where Huntington pay a visit. The result will appear in this column.
