YORK and District Indoor Bowls Club lost 137-124 when they entertained a touring team representing English Indoor Bowling Association president Tony Horibin.
It was only the third visit in the history of the York club by a presidents team.
York won four of the six rinks but lost one of the others 37-15.
York Ladies continued their good run in their defence of the Yetton Trophy with a hard-fought 76-69 win over Selby, who reduced the arrears from 14 shots after 18 ends to only seven at the finish.
Carol Instone, Mary Wreglesworth, Joyce Chelin and Linda Parker were tied at 11-11 after 11 ends and then scored 11 shots without reply over the next five ends and went on to win 24-14.
In the other rink played at York, Jeanette Coulson, Sue Tomlinson, Maureen Robinson and Madge Zimnoch were 12-10 down after 13 ends and then scored nine shots over the next five ends on their way to winning 1915.
At Selby, Pat Napier continued her unbeaten record in the competition - she has not lost for over two years - but only just.
Napier, Maureen Walker, June Clayton and Dot Kennelly were 15-13 down after 18 ends and with one end to go, but they managed to tie 16-16.
In the other rink played at Selby, Linda Harrison, Sue Kirkpatrick, Maureen Thomas and Joan Jackson led 11-10 after five ends and 15-5 after ten ends but then their opponents staged a remarkable comeback to win 24-17.
York will play North Cave in the third round on January 11.
New Earswick, losing all four rinks,were well beaten 90-57 by Hull in their Egham Trophy second round match.
Playing at home, Dave Birch, Jean Bartnett, Mavis Clare and Tony Taylor were trailing 4-0 after three ends and lost 19-15.
In the other rink at Huntington Road, Bob Edwards, Margaret Moss, Bow Howland and Moyra Headley were 8-1 down after four ends and lost 22-17.
At Hull, Kevin Fort, Gill Clark, John Snowden and Lys Jerrum were beaten 22-19, while Mal Beavers, Gordon Thompson, Pat Storey and Pat Walker scored on only four ends and lost 27-6.
York continued their defence of the Egham Trophy by beating Ryedale 77-71 in the second round to earn a match against Hull in the next round.
Playing at York, Paul Mooring, Mal Harrison, Carol Instone and Dot Kennelly won 24-16 against Nigel Brignall's rink.
Iain Boyle, Stuart Bryan, Betty Richardson and Shirley Stacey dropped a six on the 17th end when leading 15-14 and ended up losing 22-17.
At Ryedale, Mick Parker, Dave Hewick, Melanie Brooke and Michelle Mooring got two shots on their last end to win 17-16.
Everything hinged on David Stroughair, Gordon Smith, Joyce Chelin and Joan Jackson's rink.
After five dead ends both clubs were waiting on the result of this game to decide the winner, but Stroughair's team held their nerve to win 19-17.
York's quest for the Holy Grail of indoor bowls, the Denny Cup, disappeared when they lost 78-72 to Lincoln in the fifth round.
At York, Iain Boyle, Gordon Smith, Fred Clayden and Graham Instone were 14-8 down with eight ends to go and then scored 14 shots to win 22-15.
Mick Parker, Dave Hewick, Graham Brooke and Phil Parsons scored at six ends to lose 22-12.
Playing in Lincoln, David Stroughair, Stuart Bryan, Michael Bruce and Duane Kellett were losing 13-10 after 15 ends and then scored 13 shots to win 23-14.
But Paul Mooring, John Emmerson, Barry Walker and Doug Mitchell lost 27-15 after having led 14-13 after 13 ends. Between the tenth and 15 ends York scored only 11 shots to Lincoln's 24.
